2 students completing 30 credits (20 weeks) each.

Background
Today there exists several different implementations of network management support services. The reason for this is mainly due to different use-cases for different applications. Finding the best implementation for a specific use-case is not always trivial and there are several parameters that needs to be taken into account.

Goal
The goal of this master thesis is to do a thorough analysis of the network management support services currently available. Support services that should be investigated includes DHCPv4 client and server, DHCPv6 client, IPv6ND, IPv4LL, ACD. The following aspects needs to be evaluated for each support service:

• Identifying candidates which provides the support service
• Investigate the capabilities for each candidate.
• Investigate the size used (flash and ram), both with the default configuration, but also with a slimmed down version.
• Investigate the possibility of extending functionality, using plug-ins or other alternatives
• Investigate the activity, i.e. if the candidate is still maintained.
• Investigate the CVE database to get some indication of how secure the candidate is.
• Investigate how user-friendly the interaction and/or configuration is
• Investigate the implementation complexity
• Investigate the portability possibilities
