Growth Opportunities is an R&D department of Spotify that focuses on new users, new markets and new experiences. We, in the Delite squad (a part of Growth Opportunities) build and maintain the Spotify Lite Android application. Spotify Lite is a small, fast, and simplified version of Spotify’s unparalleled music experience with a few extra features making it ideal for older devices and operating systems.
Our work is experimentation-driven, where the engineering team is not only responsible for building world-class technical solutions but is also deeply involved in the ideation part of the process. We work closely with user researchers, data scientists and designers to create hypotheses around opportunities related to specific cultures, regions or markets. These hypotheses are tested by building A/B tests and prototypes, and rolling it out to our millions of users.
We are looking for thoughtful Android engineers to join our team and help build an application that enables users on older devices and operating systems to enjoy Spotify’s unparalleled music experience. This team also puts a heavy emphasis on quality, and having a test mindset. You will play a leading role in our mobile engineering practice, implementing new features, improving performance, and building beautiful user interfaces. Above all, your work will change the way the world experiences audio.
What You’ll do

- Accelerating Spotify Lite growth by productionizing and shipping proven experiments
- Exploring new growth driving capabilities through innovate experiments
- Performance improvements to keep the Lite app best-in-class in terms of performance, data consumption and device resource usage
Who You Are
- You have 2+ years of Android development experience
- You have 3+ years of Java development experience
- You are an experienced Android engineer who appreciates well written, well tested, clean code
- You have a quality first mindset and experience with mobile app test automation frameworks
- You have experience with Test-driven development (TDD)
- You value shipping small incremental code changes to production frequently, rather than spending time on the perfect solution
