At Northfork we are spearheading the technical development of the grocery industry, working with the biggest retailers in the world and iterating through a close dialog with end users. From our head office in Stockholm we have built a SaaS platform powering retailers to sell groceries from recipes. The recipes can reside on the retailers own domains, online store or surfaced at publishers.   

Our vision is grocery shopping on autopilot, with a perfect result every time. To reach that vision we have developed the world’s best recipe shopping platform, along with gaining insights from our consumer brand Gastrofy.  

To support our current growth we are now looking for a highly talented Vice President of Technology that can strengthen our current customer relationships, our customer acquisition process, and last but not least leading the team to develop the Northfork platform. 

We value placement in Stockholm, but as we are remote first, we will consider applicants in nearby timezones (office hours is GMT+1/2). 

Job Description

As VP of Tech you should provide sound technical leadership in all aspects of our business. We value high pace, own initiatives and innovation at Northfork, and as a small high performing team, VP of Tech is a key part of our future success. This means that you will need to communicate with employees, stakeholders and customers to ensure our company’s technologies are used appropriately and always are in the forefront of what is possible. To succeed we expect you to be skilled in current technological trends and familiar with a variety of business concepts. 

VP of Tech will work closely with and report to the VP of Northfork. In this role, having business knowledge will be necessary to align technology decisions with Northfork’s long term goals. You are an excellent communicator and preferably also comfortable representing the company.

What you will do

• Lead the strategy for the technology platform 

  • Create overall technology standards and practices and ensure adherence

  • Oversee all system design and changes in system architecture

  • Identify, compare, select and implement technology solutions to meet current and future needs, and make your case what decisions to choose

  • Represent the technological agenda in staff meetings 

• Responsible for all technical aspects managing and developing partnerships 

  • Track, analyze and monitor technology performance metrics

  • Optimize infrastructure assets to both satisfy internal targets and customer SLAs

• Develop, track and control the budget for parts of the organisation under your direct responsibility

• Work closely with Gastrofy ABs product team for knowledge and end user insights, as well as running experiments together

• Managing a team of direct reports (engineers), on- and offsite

  • Build a team of world class engineers

    
    

Our current technology stack 

Northfork is primarily built with PHP using MySQL for storage, and we use supporting technologies like Varnish & Redis for cache, Datadog for logging & monitoring, and Angular for our admin UI. Everything is hosted on AWS, including pipelines for CI/CD. We are moving towards an event driven microservice architecture with Kafka in the middle. You feel comfortable with this stack, but your abilities are not limited to what you know today, you are able to adapt with an open mind on what is needed to solve business opportunities.

Requirements and qualifications

• Previous working experience as a technical management consultant, CTO, Senior Engineering Roles or similar and preferably that you can support your technical background with a MA in Engineering, Computer Science or similar.

  • In-depth knowledge of web systems architecture, design and development

  • Proactive problem solver

• Hands on experience with complex project management, where outstanding communication, interpersonal and leadership skills are important

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills

• Attention to details

• Fluent in English, which is our company language.
