Background
The human body is in constant contact with parts of the interior car cabin when seated. Those surfaces should be perceived as comfortable and not create any discomfort, numbness, soreness or pain regardless of the intented usage. The total comfort experience in a car is a combination of many factors, including both physiological as well as psychological factors.

Scope
The aim with this thesis is to investigate parameters important for comfortable vehicle surfaces and develop guidelines for improved comfort.

Task description

• Scientific literature study
• Identify parameters affecting comfort between body parts and interior parts
• Identify surfaces in physical contact with driver, front and rear passenger
• Perform user tests, focus group discussions & interviews to identify suitable comfort levels of identified comfort parameters
• Develop guidelines and interior concepts for improved comfort
   

Do you fit the profile
The master thesis is suitable for two master students with profiles towards human centric engineering. Product Development, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design Engineering or similar. You are an efficient team player, with great communication skills. You have an analytical approach and a curious mindset. Further you are engaged and take responsibility to your work.

The work will be conducted on site at Volvo Cars, Gothenburg and a valid driver license B is required.
 

Duration

• The work will start in January 2022, exact date si to be discussed.
• The duration for this thesis work is 20 weeks.
• 30 ECTS (academic credits)
• This thesis is to be conducted by 2 students working in pair.
