Background
As part of Volvo Cars Electrification Strategy, the Electric Drivetrain department within Vehicle Propulsion is developing Electric machines, Transmissions and Power Electronics for Traction Inverter.
We are aiming for world class performance of these systems with high attention to energy efficiency and sustainability. Therefore, we need to further expand our knowledge and capability within modelling and simulations of inverter system performance using latest technology tools and methods.

Scope
This Master thesis will focus on the power inverter system modelling and simulation for different timescale requirements, aiming to support the design of the high-power inverter and the integration to the electric driveline platform which involves multi physics aspects, including the switch devices characteristics, electro-thermal conversion, electromagnetic generation, thermal description, lifetime, and health state.

The work will include the tasks as below:
•    Investigate and understand the modelling and simulation requirements of the inverter system in different physical dimensions
•    Understand the power electronics system simulation and control from theory aspect
•    Inverter system simulation practice and the subsystem interface design
•    Dynamic performance analysis of the integrated model simulation
•    Verification of the simulation system with existing experiment results

Do you fit the profile
We are looking for students pursuing a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering, applied physics, mathematics or similar, to qualify. Knowledge of power electronics or the electrical vehicles related project backgrounds are merits. Excellent teamwork capacity and communication skills, both oral and written English, are needed.  We see that you are available on-site one or two days to join weekly consultation meetings.
