Background

Inverters are used in automotive to be able to control electrical machines to produce the desired speed and torque to propel the vehicle. In order to have accurate control of the electrical machine used to propel the vehicle a highly accurate and robust speed and position sensor called the resolver is typically used. The resolver is an active devise meaning that requires a power supply and the outputs from the signals needs to be processed in order to be useable by the machine controller.

Scope

The main objective is to make a robust signal acquisition of the speed and position from the resolver outputs in a robust way, meaning that it should also be able to detect if the signals from the resolver are not usable. This means that tracking observers and fault detection algorithms are parts which needs to be developed. In order to be able to test and develop the needed algorithms a resolver model is therefore also need to be developed as part of the work.
