Device Research Program

Ericsson Research (ER) is strengthening its research on device-related technologies and is building a new organization for in relation to this. The charter is to create novel concepts and technologies, do proof-of-concept prototyping, be a strategic eco-system influencer, serve as a pool of expertise supporting strategy, business and standardization functions within the Ericsson group, and create strategically important intellectual property.

Job Description

We are recruiting a person to head the new unit “Device Baseband Technology Research” at Ericsson Research in Lund.

The size of the unit is expected to be 6- approximately 8 researchers, of which the majority is still to be recruited.

The scope of the unit’s research is digital and mixed-signal technologies for connected devices, such as processor architectures and subsystems, digital microelectronics, energy management, and sensors. The research scope comprises both theoretical (simulation) work and practical (prototypes) components.

The unit is a key part in Ericsson’s cross-disciplinary device research program which includes cooperation with both internal and external parties, such as academia and leading component manufacturers.

The position reports to the Head of Device Platform Research, who reports to the head of Research Area Hardware, Device, and EMF.

The job includes to

  • Build the unit by recruiting a strong and diverse team
  • Develop competence, structure, ways of working and collaborative activities for the unit.
  • Set targets for the unit and ensure execution and visibility of such.
  • Interact with key internal stakeholders such as the IPR and Licensing unit, business units, product development units and market units to ensure Ericsson’s technology leadership and strategic relevance of research activities.
  • Support Ericsson Group Functions with relevant expertise.
  • Interact with key external stakeholders such as academia, research institutes, and industry partners to ensure Ericsson’s technology leadership and strategic relevance of research activities. This includes to establish, drive and maintain collaborations with such parties. 
  • Represent both the unit and Ericsson Research in customer dialogue and other external events.
  • Be a role model for the unit representing the Ericsson values – Professionalism, Respect and Perseverance.

 

Preferred qualifications

  • First-hand R&D experience from the handset or mobile chipset industry.
  • Postgraduate degree or M.Sc. with significant experience from management roles in research and/or product development. International work experience as well as business experience is a positive but not required. 
  • In-depth technical expertise in embedded systems, including both digital and analog electronics.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills.
  • First-hand experience and a track record in innovation and/or patent creation. 
  • Taking a pride in the timeliness and quality of your team’s work.
  • A curiosity and interest in global technical and commercial trends.
  • A drive to try new things and methods.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
