Job Description

Kings Road Publishing is looking for a sales/foreign rights manager to join the team.

To manage co-edition book sales across French and Spanish speaking territories i.e. France, French Canada, Spain and LAM with direct selling responsibility for these markets. The role will require sales targets to be met through growing existing accounts, and also opening new accounts in existing territories. A strong level of account management is expected to ensure that adequate service levels are upheld.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Maximise co-edition sales to publishers in agreed territories. Sales will be across KRP non-fiction Children imprints: Templar, Big Picture Press, Weldon Owen and Studio Press.
  • Budget forecasting and agreeing strategy for the designated markets with the Head of dept. and the Co-ed Sales Director, monitor progress against budget and ensure target are met and exceeded.
  • Negotiation of prices, and schedules with customers in accordance with targeted margins and agreed parameters.
  • Grow and expand existing customers and pursue new sales initiatives – opening up new accounts and new business streams.
  • Ensure internal systems and processes are followed and maintained.
  • Contribute to Acquisition meetings, and communicate clearly to the relevant publishing teams on customers feed-back and through market knowledge & experience. Identify business trends in their relevant markets.
  • The role will require a substantial amount of foreign travel. Candidate will need to be available to travel to bookfairs in Europe (twice per year – Frankfurt and Bologna) as well as visiting clients within the territory. This could be 8-10 International trips per year.
  • Candidate will need to forward plan their strategy for the year to maximise sales across the territory
  • Build relationships with key buyers at relevant International Publishers, and also build relationships with internal colleagues

Skills & Requirements

Skills & Experience:

  • Min. 2-3 years’ experience in a co-edition Sales environment, within book publishing is advantageous and some previous knowledge of the territories in question would be desirous.
  • Fluent French and Spanish are a pre-requisite
  • Commercial awareness, with excellent sales and negotiation skills
  • Excellent customer focus skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, analytical and forward thinking
  • Budget management & organisational skills
  • Excellent problem solving and trouble-shooting skills
  • Positive can-do attitude
