Role Overview

We – DICE Operations – are looking for a talented and driven person that is passionate about improving software systems for games with millions of users to join the Service Quality team. Service Quality is a specialist group that are involved in long term quality  for all DICE games & systems. Here, you will be working with a large number of systems; some developed at DICE, some developed externally. We collaborate with a lot of different teams within EA on a regular basis; exposing you to a broad range of technology, from old school Java/SQL based platforms to fancy Python/Scala systems.

The challenge ahead

We are looking for a curious systems engineer with an eye for numbers to work in the Service Quality team at DICE Operations. The core purpose of the Service Quality team is to ensure that all online functionality in DICEs games are functioning properly and continue to improve.

What a Systems Engineer does at DICE Operations

This position is mainly an operational role — part system administrator, part software engineer. You will deploy, monitor, manage and analyze modern services that scale to millions of users, and handle terabytes of data. System scalability, availability and performance are of utmost importance. You will also design and implement solutions to improve operational procedures and automation, enabling other engineers to deliver better software. We welcome you to be part of a small, highly skilled and collaborative team that operates on the frontlines of software technology.

The next great Systems Engineer

  • Has a strong desire to learn new things!
  • Has at least 2 years’ experience of system operations and software development. For example Python or another high-level language.
  • Has experience in data processing and statistical analysis. You can easily understand what numbers mean and visualise them.
  • Has interest in modern distributed systems and web application scaling, including virtualization, clustering, sharding and fail-over solutions.
  • Has experience of practical software engineering, preferably having experienced at least one product launch.
  • Has a detailed understanding of system performance and system monitoring for Unix/Linux platforms.
  • Has strong language skills – excellent spoken and written English is a must.

Good to have

  • Experience of deployments on cloud platforms, preferrably Amazon Web Services.
  • Acquaintance with containers, Mesos/Aurora and Kubernetes is an advantage.
  • Contributions to Open Source projects is a plus.
  • Scala experience is a plus.
  • Experience of operating large scale highly available systems with millions of users is advantageous.
  • An interest in games is advantageous.
