Development Engineer, Biofuels & Biochemicals, SCA Energy i Umeå

SCA Energy develops renewable energy from forest resources and produces refined and unrefined forest based biofuels, in addition to managing SCA’s wind power assets.

As part of SCA Energy, the biorefinery team’s purpose is to create new profitable businesses based on residues and by-products from the forest industry.

In the area of biofuels and biochemicals the success will depend on several factors, such as technology development, political trends, consumer behavior, etc.

Therefore, one of the main tasks is to lead projects and teams developing technology for converting biomass residues into biofuels and biochemicals (hydrocarbon products). The different tasks will require a combination of personal drive, leadership skills and technical skills.

• Be in charge of projects within technology development


• Lead commercialization projects, within biofuels and biochemicals


• Lead projects in laboratory and pilot scale


• Play an active role in IP strategies and identify patent opportunities


• Investigate existing technologies in petrochemical industry and oil refining


• Apply existing know-how to biofuels and biochemicals development


• Create a platform for sharing know-how within SCA


• Set strategies for commercialization and product development


• Evaluate, examine and build partnerships


• Communicate effectively with the different teams within the SCA group, as well as with consultants and external partners


• Develop personal skills by attending training, courses and conferences

You have a deep interest in technologies for production of biofuels and biochemicals, as well as enjoy working in creative teams and feel a desire to make things happen.

• Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or similar


• Knowledge about chemical reaction engineering, catalysis and distillation


• Interest in leadership and project management


• Leadership skills


• Business savvy


• Excellent problem solving skills


• Strong written and verbal communication skills
