Scania genomgår nu en transformation från att vara en leverantör av lastbilar, bussar och motorer till en leverantör av kompletta och hållbara transportlösningar.
Scania is one of the leading European manufacturers of heavy‑duty vehicles (HDV), with global sales of 82’470 trucks, 8’310 buses and 8’520 engines in 2017. When it comes to energy consumption and global warming, we actively contribute to the necessary reduction of fuel consumption (FC) and greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).
The assessment of future saving potentials, where only concepts or prototypes of the components exist, is done by simulation.
To determine the consumption of liquid or gaseous fuels, or of electrical energy, the longitudinal motion of the HDV on typical driving cycles and the resulting courses of speed and torque at the engine are simulated. As final step the consumption is interpolated from the performance map of the engine.
For this task an own simulation model for HDV in Matlab Simulink was created at Scania, which shall be used to assess upcoming vehicle components for the saving potential.
The outcome shall be an English thesis on future saving potentials, which can be published by the University. It shall also serve as technical report for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, thus the companies Scania and MAN.
– Select vehicle components and efficiency measures to be simulated.
– Rework the vehicle model, to enable the simulation of the selected components.
– Assist in the measurement of an HDV on the chassis dynamometer.
– Validate the simulation model versus the chassis dyno measurement.
– Simulate future possible fuel savings, and check the results for plausibility.
