Scania is a global company and Scania R&D is placed in Södertälje. This thesis is to be performed at Scania Powertrain Control Systems, where for example smart cruise controls and automated gear management are developed.
Choosing the right gear at the right time, is important to improve both fuel economy and powertrain performance. Gear management is typically determined by online simulation. Simulations are often powerful, but require high speed computing.
Determine in what conditions machine learning can be useful in an online gear management.
The thesis project will include a study of state of the art, both for gear management but also applications using machine learning.
A control algorithm using artificial intelligence is to be developed and tested on truck models, existing and used at R&D.
Sensitivity analysis is to be performed to understand in what conditions machine learning is a better alternative to today’s control.
