A thesis project at Scania is an excellent way of making contacts for your future working life with many of our current employees started their career with a thesis project. The engine control diagnostics group are responsible for requirements, development and certification of diagnostics (OBD) in the control system for the engine and engine aftertreatment systems (EATS). The responsibility consists of requirement setting and development of products, processes and methods within this area. The groups main assignment is to ensure that the systems OBD functionality fulfills the legal requirement for OBD and the safety and security standards that the system shall fulfill.

Background

Scania is taking on one of the company’s biggest challenges to date with the introduction of on-road heavy duty (HD) vehicles to the American market. The certification process differs significantly from any other market in the world thus todays processes at Scania are currently under review.  To meet the future requirements on documentation, storage of certified components and updates in hardware, software and calibration, requires a clear process that synchronises with other development processes at Scania.

Target

Map the OBD certification process within Scania for existing markets and how these can be adapted and updated for the future entry in the American on-road HD market.

Assignment

Study the existing Scania organisation and processes, providing clear actions for how to ensure successful entry into the American on-road HD market from an OBD Certfication perspective. Deliver supporting information to firmly establish rolls and responsibility areas within Scania.
