30 credits – Automated Architecture Description for Scania Connected Platform i Sodertalje

Thesis project at Scania is an excellent way of making contacts for your future working life. Many of our current employees started their career with a thesis project.

Background

The automotive industry is moving towards highly connected, highly autonomous vehicles. This trend drives a rapid expansion of the Scania IoT platform which facilitates an efficient and secure connection between the vehicle and various cloud based services, such as digital twin.

Scania Connectivity drive this connectivity for sustainable transport solutions.

A challenge for architects within Scania Connectivity is to keep an up-to-date architectural description of products and services, and their interfaces.

An automatically self-describing architecture model would be a valuable tool for making informed and efficient architectural decisions on both short-term development and long-term evolution of the system.

The thesis aims to investigate and evaluate an automated alternative to the standard, manual, approach for architecture and product description.

Target

The target of this thesis is to build a proof-of-concept (POC) for an tool which automatically generate architectural and product description for the products, services and interfaces within Scania Connectivity.

For a two-student thesis, the target is extended to explore suitable visualization concepts as part of the POC.

Assignment

  • Literature study: overview of agile software architecture frameworks.
  • Evaluate how the current interfaces and code repositories within Scania Connectivity can be used as is, or modified, to generate input data to populate the chosen model.
  • Build a POC for the chosen architecture framework model and populate it automatically from the Scania Connectivity production systems.
  • If two students: evaluate the visualization needs from various stakeholders (e.g. managers, architects developers) within Scania Connectivity.
  • If two students: incorporate such visualizations in the POC.
