You will be a part of our logistic and material team in Västerås. Are you ready for your challenge within logistics and material handling? Robotics develops, manufactures and markets robots and associated control systems, software, arc welding products, tracks and motor packages. We have bases in Västerås, Jönköping and the area of Gothenburg in Sweden. Over 90% of our production goes to export and our customers include all major auto manufacturers. The auto industry and its sub suppliers and to an increasing extent general industry, such as the food industry, are automating their production with robots. Welding, machine tending, materials management, grinding, packaging and assembly are the most common applications. Our robots and robotics are sold via local ABB companies and via independent systems integrators and OEM companies – companies we call our Partners.

We are looking for students that can analyze our logistic material flow with focus on Safety. Our logistic and material department is part of our Operations. The Logistic and material department are responsible for incoming gods from external material hub, wash and repack, delivery of material to and from production lines and final assembly and packaging.
Throughout the flow from unloading incoming gods to loading outbound goods we need to improve our lift safety.

We want you to look into our existing lifting routines for forklift, by hand and with lifting equipment. After that we want you to make suggestions for improvements.
You will have the possibility to implement process improvements together with the logistics department.

Students for this thesis work should have higher adequate engineer education with connection to Lean Production and Logistics.

Period: January to Mars 2019 – 15 ECTS/hp or January to June 2019 – 30 ECTS/hp. 1-2 students. Thesis can be done partly on site, partly at the university.
