Background
Development of vehicle-to-everything (V2X) network connectivity represents significant step towards connected vehicles and autonomous driving. High positioning accuracy is one demanding requirement for most of the use-cases in this industry. There are several different positioning solution candidates available, spanning from Real Time Kinematics (RTK) Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) to 5G positioning, V2X ranging and even Ultra Wide Band (UWB) components. Specifications for scalable provisioning of RTK corrections via cellular networks has recently been agreed, also a demo was internally developed to study the accuracy of RTK GNSS positioning compared to the conventional GNSS (GPS) accuracy. Therefore, a study on exploring the potentials of a subset of positioning solutions and potentially a combination of couple of them for V2X positioning is very timely as the topic has gained a lot of momentum in both industry and academy.
This work is carried out at Ericsson Research, which provides Ericsson with system concepts, technology and methodology, to secure long term competitive products. We drive world-class innovation through cooperation within Ericsson and with partners, customers, universities and research institutes.
Thesis Description
This Master Thesis aims at exploring different V2X positioning scenarios and studying the RTK GNSS technology, and also 5G components for the purpose of V2X positioning. The study may require test activites outdoor, and also knowledge on Android and Java is required, while for post processing of data and models a strong theoretical background on signal processing and MATLAB programming is recommended.
Qualifications
This project aims at Master of Science (civilingenjör) students in electrical engineering, computer science, or computer engineering. Matlab and C++ are our primary tools for modeling and simulation work, hence excellent Matlab programming skills in particular is a must. Background in telecommunication is preferred.
