You will be part of Motors & Generators, Machines in Västerås. The unit, which is part of the business unit Motors & Generators, develops, sells and manufactures Motors and Generators in the power range from 1 MW and above.

Uppgifter :

Owners of electrical machines, motors and generators expect a high reliability and a long life time which can only be achieved by a consistent quality assurance throughout the whole product life cycle. ABB holds an advanced service solution for analyzing the condition and expected remaining lifetime of the machines. This service should be developed further by including new type of measurements based on using Very Low Frequency (VLF) measurements, which have the benefit of compact and light weight measurement equipment.

Your task will be to

• Review the literature on VLF techniques for insulation assessment, with the aim of discovering additional benefits that could potentially increase the knowledge and state of degradation of the insulation during its’ assessment
The proposed technique could use VLF measurements independently or in combination with other measurements
• Evaluate the new technology with field tests, propose and deploy methods to analyze the data and compare it with the already existing data
• Propose improvements in available VLF equipment and select additional modules/equipment that could enhance the value of the measurements
• Describe and document the test process, measurements, analysis and assessment

Structure and content are to be discussed with the Product Manager and R&D team. Please feel free to propose alternative structure/content.

Krav:

Master of Science – Electrical Engineering or similar.

• Period starts January 2019
• This Master Thesis is equivalent to 30 ECTS / högskolepoäng (hp)
• The thesis is recommended for 1-2 persons
• The work is recommended to take place on site
