Software Engineer – Master Thesis i Stockholm

Frostbite is a technology and collaboration platform for diverse game franchises, such as FIFA, Battlefield, Star Wars Battlefront, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Need for Speed and Plant vs. Zombies Garden Warfare. Thousands of game developers all over the world are using Frostbite to create some of the best-looking games in the industry!

This Master Thesis will be created in a talented multi-disciplinary team developing the tools and game runtime behind the amazing worlds you see in Frostbite games. This includes the workflows and systems for building levels and objects in Frostbite. In the team we collaborate closely on a day-to-day basis to make sure game teams around the world have great workflows and a performant and flexible runtime for their games.

We are offering a Master thesis position with one of two preliminary topics.

Composing gameplay from small pieces of behaviour

Investigate how gameplay behaviour can be authored from small building blocks. What are good rules for composition and a good basic set of building blocks that allows game designers to quickly prototype gameplay ideas?

Parallel high performance gameplay updates

Modern games consist of large amounts of objects, that all have to be updated correctly in multiple stages with ordering constraints. Getting this wrong can lead to all sorts of errors, that surface as bugs or crashes. How can gameplay be updated in a way that is safe and easy to understand with high performance?

Requirements:

• 20 week / full semester Master Thesis /Internship
• Experience working in C++
• Experience in some hobby game development is useful but not required

The Master Thesis needs to be associated with a University education or any other type of education that has a Master Thesis or internship period planned into the education plan.
