You will be a part of Grid Integration, Technology and Solutions Development. High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) is a highly efficient alternative for transmitting large amounts of electricity over long distances and for special purpose applications. As a key enabler in the future energy system based on renewables, HVDC is truly shaping the grid of the future. The control and protection (C&P) system is the brain in HVDC transmission systems. One of the most important advantages with modern HVDC technology is the controllability.
Uppgifter :
Our team is responsible for developing and maintaining the base control and protection application software for use as the starting point for HVDC delivery projects. A significant part of our efforts is to test the application software. Adding built-in simulation modes would allow for pre-testing of functionality. It could also expand the opportunities for testing functionality in already commissioned systems, for example before applying changes to a live system.
The goal of this Master Thesis is to develop built-in simulation and testing functionality for HVDC C&P. Tasks include identifying functions suitable for internal simulation as well as implementing and testing the software in an actual C&P system. We are however open to discussing the scope of the thesis based on the profile of the students. The scope could also include pre-study efforts for future steps, for example towards virtualization or automatic testing.
