What you will be a part of

Kockums, a business area within Saab, provides design, construction and in-service support for advanced naval systems such as surface combatants and submarines to the Swedish Armed Forces and other customers worldwide. Our product portfolio consist of the air-independent Stirling system, mine countermeasure systems and submarine rescue systems amongst other. Kockums operate in Karlskrona, Malmö, Muskö, Järfälla and Singapore.

We are unique! Want to be part of a small dedicated team, experts on the Stirling engine? We are looking to hire a skilled and passionated development engineer. We offer you a varied role where you will be able to learn and develop as well as having a true impact on the work we do.

Stirling Engine Development at Saab Kockums is assigned to improve, customize and develop the Stirling Engine. This engine prolongs the endurance submerged from days to weeks and it is free from vibrations, silent and very difficult to find. Our department works with the development of new systems as well as upgrade and engineering of older conventional submarines with Stirling AIP system.

 

Your role

As a development engineer at Stirling, your main task is to work with development and design of the Stirling engine. This means project oriented work to generate ideas, analyze through technical calculations and realize ideas in a CAD model and drawings. You will work with the complete Stirling module including frame and supporting systems.

The role as development engineer include many contacts within Kockums Stirling with for instance electrical design, automation and testing. You will also have contacts with engineers at Kockums in ongoing submarine projects and with suppliers for manufacturing of components.

The job will include up to 20 travel days per year within Sweden.

Your skills and experience

You have a university degree in Mechanical engineering or similar and a few years working experience as mechanical engineer. An interest in research and development is a must and if you have a PhD in relevant area that’s a merit. You have good knowledge in working with CAD (preferable Creo). If you have experience of CFD calculations and/or measurement it´s a great advantage and it´s a merit if you have experience or knowledge within combustion or thermodynamics. We also look for you who have worked with engine development or other machine development. 

Since the job include many social interfaces, you need well developed communication skills and of course enjoy to work in collaboration with others. Working in a small team, we need you to take responsibility for your tasks and we would love it if you are like us, take pride in your work, and want to deliver at your best.
Proficiency in Swedish and English is a requirement. Diving licence is a merit.
