30 credits – Behaviour of NOx sensors at their End of Life i Sodertalje

Thesis project at Scania is an excellent way of making contacts for your future working life. Many of our current employees started their career with a thesis project.

Background
Scania Eu6 diesel engines are equipped with an advanced aftertreatment system with the purpose of reducing mainly soot and NOx emissions. In order to control and monitor the function of the system a number of different sensors are used.

The NOx sensors used by Scania today have a guaranteed lifespan but many sensors are used even after this time has passed, after the guaranteed period the sensor can sometimes behave erratic and will have to be replaced. It would be desirable to be able to identify if there are some precursors to this erratic behaviour and if it is possible to act on the information and identify the specific sensor that needs to be replaced.

Assignment
The assignment is to analyse and identify the NOx sensors end of life behaviour and if possible, propose what actions could be taken to improve our current functionality. This project will have both a theoretical part where functionality is developed as well as a practical approach in engine test bed where both the investigation of when it is possible to start as well as validation of the developed functionality will take place.

Candidate profile
The ideal project candidate have skills in the following areas. However, all candidates will be considered.

  • Experimental work
  • Design of experiment
  • Evaluating and presenting experimental results
  • Measurement technology
  • Modelling in Matlab/Simulink and/or basic c programming skills
  • Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) technology
  • Spoken and written English and Swedish
  • Independent and structured work methodology

Start date: January/February 2020
