Ingress:
Compliant mechanisms are flexible mechanisms that transfer motion, force or energy through deflection of flexible members. Compared to traditional rigid-body mechanisms consisting of rigid links connected at movable joints. The use of these mechanisms are an fairly unexplored area in the automotive industries but holds large potential for increased robustness, rescission and cost saving. The growing use of additive manufacturing in form of 3D printing, in combination with compliant mechanisms, further opens the possibilities of new innovative solutions.
Background:
Gearbox components are often exposed to wear mechanics due to large number of repetitive motion. The numbers of repetitive motion are continuously increasing as the automatization of gear section increases due to performance and efficiency. The need for robust solutions with high precision over time is needed.
Target:
Develop an early working prototype for controlling the position of gear shift forks. Make a comparison regarding cost, weight, durability, etc. between the concept and traditional solutions.
