30 credits - Optimizing Cooling Fan for Heavy Electrified Vehicles i Sodertalje
Scania is a world-leading provider of transport solutions. Together with our partners and customers we are driving the shift towards a sustainable transport system. In 2018, we delivered 88,000 trucks, 8,500 buses as well as 12,800 industrial and marine engines to our customers. Net sales totalled to over SEK 137 billion, of which about 20 percent were services-related. Founded in 1891, Scania now operates in more than 100 countries and employs some 52,000 people. Research and development are concentrated in Sweden, with branches in Brazil and India. Production takes place in Europe, Latin America and Asia, with regional production centres in Africa, Asia and Eurasia. Scania is part of TRATON SE. For more information visit: www.scania.com.
Om tjänsten
Scania is now undergoing a transformation from being a supplier of trucks, buses and engines to a supplier of complete and sustainable transport solutions.
Background:
In electrified vehicles , the cooling fan provides air flow to the battery cooling circuit, component cooling circuit and electric machine circuit. In heavy electrified vehicles there is a need for higher cooling capacity.
Therefore we need larger electrical fan with higher power and sometimes several cooling fans.
Assignment:
The project assignment is to study different factors in cooling fan design in order to achieve optimized cooling capacity and air flow in electrified vehicles’ cooling system.
- Study on optimizing air flow through cooling fan and reaching less noise level
- Investigation of different installation parameters in order to achieve higher efficiency
Example: distance from the radiator, the angle from radiator etc.
- Comparison between electrical cooling fan’s efficiency and mechanical cooling fan’s efficiency
- Study on motor design, what optimal power we need for different blade designs in order to meet required cooling capacity
- Benchmark of different fan designs to investigate noise level
Education:
Master (civilingenjör), elektronik, Elkraftteknik, Maskinteknik, Farkost, mekanik, mekatronik.
Knowledge of Matlab, simulink and CFD are a plus.
