You will be part of Technology & Solutions Development, within the Power Grids division, in Ludvika. The MACH Control & Protection Platform R&D department is a part of ABB Technology & Solutions Development and is responsible for the development of state-of-the-art control system platform for HVDC and FACTS applications. The MACH C&P department in Ludvika has around 70 employees, focusing mainly on Hardware and Software design working in close collaboration with the global MACH C&P organization. The HVDC technology has been on the market for the past 60 years and is used, among other things, to transmit power over long distances with minimal losses, using overhead lines, underground and submarine cable systems. In this thesis work we would like to challenge you to develop an innovative methodology for rapid prototyping of conceptual circuit boards.
Details:
• Period – January/February – May/June 2020
• This master thesis is equivalent to 30 ECTS
• The thesis work is recommended for one student
• The work is recommended to take place on site at ABB Ludvika
- Your main target in this work will be to develop a proof of concept methodology for rapid prototyping of circuit boards.
- You will be working on circuit board hardware design, i.e. schematics and layout.
- You will be using already developed boards or evaluation kits from different vendors.
- You will be working in a cross functional team for the development of circuit boards.
- You will optimize the solution across different performance metrics (time-to-market, cost-efficiency, manufacturability, testability, etc).
- You will define a methodology that is feasible and applicable for industrial electronic products.
- You will live ABB’s core values of safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues and the business.
- Master program in electrical engineering, including courses in embedded system design and digital electronics design.
- A deep interest and passion in circuit board design.
- Experience in board bring-up and debugging skills.
- Experience with lab equipment and test setups.
- Knowledge on digital electronic components such as FPGAs, DSPs and microprocessors.
- Experience on FPGA coding (Verilog/VHDL) is a plus.
- Experience in embedded software development is a plus.
