Axis speakers and door stations are used daily by both customers and developers. These Axis devices are used in a wide range of areas, for instance with security and access control. Since developers are using these devices to create new functionality and developing new tools, they need to be sure that all devices are working correctly and are connected. By ensuring the functionality of these devices, both developers and customers can use the devices without having to worry that they need to be maintained. In this thesis we want to take a look at these devices and investigate ways of making it easier for both developers and customers to ensure that devices are working correctly. This could possibly be accomplished by creating automated tests which can handle the testing of multiple devices simultaneously.
The main focus of this thesis is to investigate ways of testing multiple devices automatically, for instance by using a tool which enables automated tests by clicking a single button. The tool should mainly be used to perform automated tests on multiple devices and handle feedback on whether or not the tests went through. It is important to consider which limitations such a tool might have, as it should be able to handle the testing of multiple dozens of devices.
Depending on the expertise of the students the thesis can include some or all of the following points:
• Investigate use cases of a tool for automated testing.
• Investigate and implement the possibilities to check whether or not devices already are in use.
• Implement the ability to check whether or not a device or multiple devices are connected to the network.
• Investigate the ability to connect to and track devices and send and receive data.
• Present suggestions on how the developed tool could be utilized. We are open to adapting this thesis and encourage the students to present their own suggestions and ideas on this theme.
Team members will be available for interviews and other support, such as answering questions regarding which functionality is important to consider.
