The offer spans transformers, high voltage products, systems for power transmission and solutions and automation for integration and interconnecting power grids – to enable a stronger, smarter and greener grid.

HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) is a business unit within ABB’s Power Grids division located in Ludvika. The unit develops, manufactures and sells DC transmission systems on a global market. This ABB developed HVDC technology is used to transmit electricity over long distances and for power transmission via submarine cables. HVDC is also used to connect power systems. The Valve Design department is responsible for the design of converter valves, a key component in HVDC transmission systems. The HVDC valve consists of more than 15 000 components and is a complex product which requires several years of experience before the technology can be fully mastered.

Your responsibilities
  • Participating in the mechanical design of order projects of the HVDC converter valves.
  • Designing in NX/Team Center environment.
  • Working with technically challenging products which span over several technological areas – for example heat transferring, electrical insulation, strength and materials technology.
  • Ensuring that your delivery is on time and right from a cost and quality perspective.

Your background
  • A university degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • At least a couple of years of experience within Mechanical Design.
  • Experience in using 3D-CAD, ideally NX.
  • A proficient computer user, and preferably good knowledge in Team Center and SAP.
  • Probably working as designer either within manufacturing or the electrical power industry today.
  • Experience and knowledge of high voltage products are meriting.
  • Experience from working in a development environment is qualifying.
  • Good knowledge in verbal and written English.
  • Efficient teamworking skills.
  • Strong self-learning skills and excellent collaborative capabilities.
  • Efficient and always striving after improvements.
  • A responsible individual who understands complex systems.
