Master thesis: Fixed cost model for Aftermarket i Göteborg

The thesis work will be conducted at Surveillance, a business area of Saab, who is one of the world’s premier suppliers of solutions for surveillance, avionics and systems to detect, locate and protect against threats. 

Sourcing & Production, a division within Surveillance, has around 380 employees where 200 are located in Göteborg. The production unit in Gothenburg is the main facility for production of Radar systems and Laser products.

The repair flow in our supply chain and production has been increasing. This means that we need to rethink how we handle our repair units, to become more effective. Some units are repaired at Saab and some are repaired at our suppliers. Regardless of supplier for repair we have a long turnaround time and difficulties producing a cost estimate for repairs, hence, creating quotations for our customers is time consuming and complex. Our cost build up is labor cost in manufacturing, material cost, supplier cost and cost for administration, transport cost etc.

The task is to analyse our cost build up for repairs to build an overall picture over common costs for all repairs. Define a model for setting a fixed cost for repair by comparing the bulk of previous estimated costs and actual outcome. There has been a pre-study of fixed costs which can be used as background data. The thesis work should also identify the benefits, and possible drawbacks, with having a fixed cost for repairs, as well as presenting process steps needed to implement the use a cost estimation model.

You are probably studying MSc in Industrial Economy or Mechanical Engineering, with a master in supply chain our production engineering or equivalent. It is preferred that you apply as a pair for the Master Thesis.

This position requires that you will be approved in a security screening in accordance with the Swedish Protective Security Act.
