Axis enables a smarter and safer world by creating network solutions that provide insights for improving security and new ways of doing business. As the industry leader in network video, Axis offers products and services for video surveillance and analytics, access control, and audio systems. Axis has more than 3,000 dedicated employees in over 50 countries and collaborates with partners worldwide to deliver customer solutions.
Category: Electronics
Scope: 2 students completing 30 credits (20 weeks) each
Background
At Axis we work with audio to enhance a system’s ability to detect and interpret events. The nature of surveillance sets high requirements on the audio design since the typical surveillance scene is far from optimal for sound capture.
Aside from traditional audio capture we are looking into new technologies to make use of all relevant information from an incoming sound. For example: Audio analytics for automatic detection and categorization of incoming sound, event localization and beamforming for directional audio capture.
Thesis proposals
1) WDR Microphone
Evaluate the possibility to combine multiple microphones to achieve a higher dynamic rang than for a single microphone.
2) Beyond Audio
How can microphones be used to sense things other than audio? For example, infra- and ultra sound, vibrations (Seismic).
3) Metadata over power
Investigate how meta data can be sent over DC power in a cost effective way without compromising Audio performance aspects. Make plausible design to implement and evaluate.
4) Beamforming
Investigate the possibilities and limitations of Beamforming. Develop theoretical models. Implement in a camera for evaluation and comparison with models.
5) Other ideas.
Feel free to present own proposals in the area of Audio electronic design.
Who are you?
For this Thesis proposal we target students with a strong interest in analogue electronic design for Audio implementations. Most likely you are studying a Master Program in Electronics Engineering or Engineering Physics.
OK, I am interested! What do I do now?
You are valuable to us – how nice that you are interested in one of our proposals! There are a few things for you to keep in mind when applying.
