Connected Experience unit within R&D includes Connectivity and Car Cloud Platform, Infotainment Platform, Applications and Data & Diagnostics. The Agile Release Train “In-Car and Remote Applications” within the unit is responsible for applications both with-in the car and in the Volvo On Call App. We build applications such as Remote Start, Climate Control and more to allow our customers the freedom to move in a safe, sustainable and personal way.

The team and our challenge

The Volvo On Call mobile app revolutionized the industry and every day we make life less complicated for hundreds of thousands of people by giving them remote access to the car from the comfort of their couch. With the app you can for instance start, heat and prepare the car for your trip by sending your destination to the car, either from your phone, tablet or your watch.

If you are a skilled Mobile Apps Software Developer within Android, you now have the chance to join us in the forefront of technology and create the next thing that magazines and sites like Engadget and the Verge writes about.

Your contribution
You will design, develop and maintain the Volvo On Call Android application and supporting systems for phones, tablets and watches. You will write testable code and unit tests as well as review your colleagues code.

You will be part of a cross functional agile team, engage with them and actively pull tasks from the backlog. If you show interest in all parts of the solution, you will have the opportunity to dip your toes into more parts than the mobile apps. We also expect you to follow technical trends and raise innovative new features!

What you bring
You share our passion for new technologies, software development and creating great user experiences! With a positive mindset you always dare to on the task that is most important for the team to progress.

Maybe you have a BSc degree in a computer related field but being a passionate spare time developer could also have prepared you for this challenge! What is important is that you are fluent in Kotlin, have a good understanding of Android platform/framework as well as the skills to write testable and maintainable code. 

You will need to show us documented experience of released applications (at least one published app) or open source projects, either by your own accord or as a member of a team. 

If you have previous experience in some of below it is considered an advantage:

•    C/C++ embedded development
•    iOS mobile app development
•    Microsoft Azure .NET development 
•    Agile tools such as Jira, Git and Jenkins
•    Software development automation
•    BLE technology
