Om tjänsten

Are you a student interested in the mobility of the future and curious about life at Volvo Cars? Then our summer internship can be something for you!

Each year, Volvo Cars welcome students as Summer Interns to our sites in Gothenburg, Olofström, Skövde and Lund. As a Summer Intern at Volvo Cars you can work in production, in one of our storages or at the office. Spending a few weeks in our team is a great way for you to get an insight to what life at Volvo Cars can be like and gives you a basic understanding of our operations. It also provides you with a strong network in our organization, which can be of value in your future career.  The number of Summer intern positions and work areas varies from year to year.

What’s in it for you?

At Manufacturing Engineering, you are part of a global engineering team that makes sure the cars we build meet the highest expectations from our customers. In close collaboration with colleagues in other business units, we develop and implement flexible and efficient production systems with people in focus. If you want to reach your personal goals together with other people, Manufacturing Engineering is the place for you to prosper.

In the section Manufacturing Engineering Body Commodity, we work during the complete car program, from early phase to implementation and commissioning in the plant. We are also contributing to prepare and implement product and manufacturing processes (manual and automated). We are ensuring product and process feedback are spread within the Manufacturing Engineering organization, to production and to R&D in order to fulfil the manufacturing attributes (quality, man-hours, cost efficiency, environment, flexibility, and change over). We also have leaders that lead and coordinate manufacturing process activities within a specific process area of the body. To describe and visualize assembly and control methods and creating Process and Inspection Instruction is also part our job.

The Body Commodity section is divided into several groups, focusing on different parts of the car program. We have staff located in Sweden, Belgium, China and US. The groups are working cross-functional & project oriented, supporting all Volvo assembly plants and projects globally. Within the Body Commodity section, we are now looking for summer internship assignee.

What you will do?
During the summer internship, you will be assigned to a small project that will start and end during the time of your internship. It is not decided yet exactly what the assignment will be, it is something that will be decided during early 2021 and by looking on the competencies on the selected candidate. With the result of your internship, we aim to develop the section and our methods where applicable. You will need to collaborate on a global scale, communicating to people located in other sites and plants, to learn where changes need to be done.

Your main tasks will be to, with you studied skills, work in a summer internship dedicated project in the Manufacturing Engineering Body Commodity section and to learn the Volvo Cars Manufacturing processes.

Do you fit the profile?

We are looking for a candidate that is graduated within engineering (B.Sc or M.Sc) or currently studying in the field of Automation and/or Production Engineering. Examples of engineering field could be Automation & Mechatronics, Mechnical Engineering and Production Engineering.

If you are in-between your 1st and 2nd year of your master’s program, there could be a possibility that this internship can lead to a future master thesis for you.

Since there will be a need for you to collaborate with people from other countries, it is important that you are a person that is not afraid of seeking contact. You also need to be self-going and to be able to come up with proposals on your own.   You need to be fluent in English both spoken and written.

It is meritorious if you have skills within PLM software such as Teamcenter. Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel and database management could also be of interest.
