About this opportunity

Group Financial Crime Compliance (GFCC) is the bank’s Financial Crime expert function that works to improve the bank’s capabilities to combat financial crime in a dynamic and challenging environment. Sanctions Advisory is an international Team of leading sanctions experts with experience and knowledge from the Nordics and around the world.  The Team is supporting all business lines and functions across the Group on complex financial crime and sanctions related matters. It also provides independent oversight of the sanctions risk management activites within the Group.

We offer you an opportunity to contribute to a team of dedicated professionals, to help drive Nordea’s Financial Crime strategy on Sanctions to enable the bank to meet societal and regulatory expectations.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing expert advice to support the implementation of Nordea’s sanctions policies to manage risk across both the 1st and 2nd lines of defence.
  • Drive the Group’s efforts to stay up to date of regulatory developments and horizon scanning to proactively understand and advise on the international sanctions environment and future developments.
  • Reviewing  and identifying and root causes of internal and regulatory incidents and advice on mitigation actions for the 1st line of Defence
  • Providing guidance related to Group’s internal sanctions policies and sanctions programs Nordea adheres to
  • Provide analysis and advice to enhance the Group’s sanctions controls across the 1st and 2nd lines of defence in line with regulatory expectations, industry best practices, and the Group’s sanctions policies.
  • Serve as part of the Group’s sanctions expert team to support Business Area customer engagement in support of Nordea’s customer strategy.

You’ll join an enthusiastic, international team of nine sanctions experts who are well connected with both internal and external stakeholders. The role is based in Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo or Helsinki.

To succeed in this role, we believe that you:

  • Are experienced in complex financial crime matters, with an emphasis on detailed understanding of UN, EU, and US sanctions,
  • Are able to provide clear, relevant and actionable advice to all business lines and functions across the Nordea Group in support of Nordea’s customer focused mission
  • Are a team player with strong communication skills, who welcomes being challenged and prioritize collaboration with your colleagues and stakeholders with the ability to both influence and understand others’ point of view
  • Are experienced in providing advice on complex business dealings requiring understanding and consideration of the totality of risk in a manner that is actionable to achieve the best outcome

Your experience and background:  

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s or other advanced degree preferred, in relevant fields such as Law, Political Science, International Affairs, Economics or Business
  • 3-5 years of experience working with the sanctions regimes of the UN, EU, US (including sanctions implemented by Commerce, State, and Treasury)
  • Familiarity with the Nordic regulatory environment and expectations of Nordic enforcement authorities on Sanctions
  • Excellent English skills, both spoken and written
