What you will do

As a Senior Risk Control Manager, you will be part of a team that is responsible for ensuring that Klarna’s processes for managing operational risk are optimized for Klarna’s operating model, which is designed to enable high speed, flow, and quality. You and the team will drive continuous improvements and adjustments to meet this demand. This will result in that the business will be able to make proper decisions with risks in mind and enable the achievement of strategic objectives.

Your accountability line will be within the 2:nd line of defense and to the Accountable Lead for the Operational Risk team which is one of five teams in Risk Control, that is ultimately led by Klarnas CRO and your competence line will belong to the Analytics competence.
 
Since Klarna is a data-driven company, decisions are based on facts and not opinions, which suits this role very well. The analytics competence is integrated into the organisation and a key function in many different areas - some examples of the others are; finance, fraud, human resources, product development, and sales. Even if analytics is applied in many different areas there are some things that all analysts have in common: a strong drive combined with analytical skills and a great team spirit! As your career develops you will develop expertise in certain areas.

However, there are a number of core skills shared by all analysts at Klarna. Klarnauts in the Analytics Competence have the ability to apply the following approach:
Day to day will see you
    • Create structure in disordered information/data
    • Manipulate and explore data and analyse problems to understand their root cause
    • Design and implement strategies in a rapidly evolving industry
    • Generate and communicate insights and recommendations
    • Design and improve processes
    • Find data and information in collaboration with other people and teams
    • Identify improvement areas in several functional areas
    • Apply both a helicopter perspective as well as have the ability to go into details
    • Develop and enhance Klarna’s operational risk management methodologies and supporting risk solutions, to enable the business in identifying and managing its risks to enable the achievement of strategic objectives
    • Insight generation on operational risks, threats, and vulnerabilities through data analysis
    • Monitoring and reporting of operational risks in relation to the risk appetite set by the Board of Directors and the CEO
    • Support and guide the business in strategic business decisions from a risk perspective 
    • Create/improve education and awareness programs to enable the first line to take good quality business decision with risks in mind  
    • Act as a mentor and a sounding board towards more junior colleagues and risk managers within the first line of defense
You should have
    • A degree from a university in a numerate subject (e.g. Economics, Science, Engineering, or Business)
    • Applicable work experience with operational risk in a risk management function or consulting/audit environment of +5 years
    • Experience in developing and implementing both qualitative and quantitative risk and control assessment methodologies
    • Experience of working in a regulated environment
    • Working proficiency and communication skills in verbal and written English
    • Ability to establish a high degree of credibility, respect, and trust with multiple internal stakeholders and influence at a senior level
    • g of how to perform data extraction and manipulation, as well as programming languages, is a plus (SQL, R, Python, MatLab, Java, C#, etc.).

    • A good track record of process or product development
    • Experience in implementing operational stress testing models and scenario analysis
    • Strong attention to details and experience in using structured approaches to problem-solving
    • Significant drive and ambition
    • Strong conceptual ability
