Job Description

Do you have previous experience from working as a Bioinformatician and want to help develop oats as a healthy and environmentally friendly crop? If you also want to contribute to better resource utilization and a more sustainable society, then it might be you that we are looking for! Crop Tailor is now hiring a Bioinformatician who wants to join our team in unlocking the secrets of the oat genome.

This is what you will do
Crop Tailor’s mission is to deliver high-value traits to customers that develop new oat varieties or new oat products. The Crop Tailor team was the first in the world to sequence the oat genome, we have developed a unique mutant library, and we now aim to make full use of our genomic resources to contribute to the development of future oat varieties.

As our Bioinformatician, you will be responsible for setting up our trait discovery pipeline. The Bioinformatics role is new, which means that you will have the opportunity develop and implement new analytical methods and work flows. You will work with data from sequencing of Sanger, Illumina and PacBio but also maintain and develop the browser for the oat genome. With the oats' unique composition, you will analyze large amounts of data and build knowledge about the genome's properties and development potential. You will create pipelines for applications that can be effectively applied and repeated on a number of different oat lines and genes; perform phylogenetic analyzes and use comparative genomics to identify relevant genes in oats; and perform genotyping, mapping and GWAS of relevant traits. You will also take active part in Crop Tailor’s research collaboration as well as initiate and lead new research projects. You will also have opportunities to work closely with Lantmännen’s world leading oat breeding program.

The position is located in Lund, Sweden and you will report to the CEO. As a key resource, you will have great opportunities to influence both your own role and the company's direction going forward.

Skills & Requirements

This is what you need to succeed:

You have:

  • A PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology or similar. Postdoc experience is a plus
  • Experience from building bioinformatic analysis pipelines.
  • Experience from plant breeding and/or the grain value chain is an advantage
  • Fluent in English in speech and writing, Swedish is not required, but a plus

You are:

  • Self-propelled, well-structured with a good ability to plan your work.
  • Organized with an ability to distinguish important details in complex contexts.
  • Comfortable in presenting to a variety of audiences with a strong verbal ability as the work involves many contacts internally and externally.
