Each year, Volvo Cars welcome students or people who just finished their studies as Summer Interns to our sites in Gothenburg, Olofström, Skövde och Lund. As a Summer Intern at Volvo Cars you can work in production, in one of our storages or at the office. Spending a few weeks in our team is a great way for you to get an insight to what life at Volvo Cars can be like and gives you a basic understanding of our operations. It also provides you with a strong network in our organization, which can be of value in your future career.  The number of Summer intern positions and work areas varies from year to year.

What you will do

You will be a part of a team of Logistic Engineers in Inbound Tactical Transport Planning function located in Gothenburg and you will have a responsibility area towards one of our destination points in Europe, factory, or cross dock/terminal. You will also work close to operation and have tactical responsibility of carriers. The Transportation Network includes all modes of transportation from direct material suppliers in Europe and all over the world to production facilities in Europe. This position will act as the interface between Inbound Logistics Team and many other functions inside the company for Transportation Network Planning and Optimization works.

 

The purpose of the Inbound Logistic Tactical Planning & Optimization organization is to identify and drive development of cost, service, and lead-time on a tactical (short mid-term) level. The function shall improve, develop, and implement the standard inbound transportation network as well as integrate new material part suppliers and carriers to create a reliable and efficient logistics network. The function shall secure that systems are kept up to date with accurate master data at all times and that new suppliers and carriers are introduced in a timely manner to support start of production for each flow and for any changes in network.

 

The function adapts the chosen transport mode to line speed changes at all time.  

The function shall also work with volume forecast on a tactical (short midterm) level and do necessary adaptations to secure bought capacity for our carriers. The role is also responsible for driving cost and sustainability improvement and follow up on respective area of responsibility.

 

This function has a critical impact for IBL to meet Volvo Cars’ budget for IBL costs. The team works in close cooperation with Transport Procurement, Supply Chain Control, and all departments within Inbound Logistic and Supply chain mgmt. We are also working close to the EMEA plants, XD docks and Consolidation centres.


The role, Logistics Engineer – Inbound Logistic Tactical Planning & Optimization - EMEA, is located within the Inbound Logistic Operational transport function within the Global Inbound Logistics organisation (IBL) and you will report to the Senior Manager - Inbound Logistic Tactical Planning & Optimization - EMEA 

 

You and your skills
We are looking for candidates with ongoing studies or a recent university degree within Supply chain/Logistics management or equivalent skills, or knowledge acquired through a minimum of 3 years of experience of operational transportation management. We think you have a strong understanding and experience of Transport Management System and transport networks, preferably experience from the automotive industry and carrier operation. We believe also that you have an Excellent communication skill on all levels and have experience and ability to explain complex scenarios on a management level, as well as to communicate findings and make recommendations that drive change.

 

If you have an operational background and/or experience in logistic processes, transportations or forwarding business, that knowledge is highly beneficial. You have proven ability to be accurate and detail oriented because this will be needed in your daily tasks. As a person your strengths are knowing when to prioritize and at the same time work analytically and have a problem-solving manner. We believe that you are fluent in English both spoken and written also. To succeed in this role, you have strong quantitative and analytical skills and experience in MS Excel, Power Bi and understand and can read and make magic happen with big data files. You have strong communication and networking skills as this role interacts with a variety of stakeholders, both internally and externally. You enjoy working in collaboration with different partners internally and outside the company.

Duration

Period for summer internship is 10 weeks, between 1 June – 31 August 2022. Start and end time to be discussed with recruiting manager.
