Job Description

Problem statement

Agile development methods require teams to work autonomously for fast development cycles. To manage increasing complexity and size of projects, there is a need for an easily accessible, always up-to-date, status overview of the different roles in the project (developer, project lead, quality management). In addition, for automotive related software development the fulfillment of quality/safety requirements is requested by the customer. A knowledge graph-based status management in combination with a powerful and interactive viewer could be an option to cover the outlined needs of the different stakeholders in an efficient way.

Proposed solution

The thesis project shall be focused on understanding which graphing tools that can be used successfully to provide an interactive status overview. The following steps are proposed:

  • Study: An initial phase to investigating open-source graph tooling (database and viewer) regarding suitability for selected use cases. Understand the use cases of the knowledge graph users (e.g. project manager, developer)
  • Implementation: Create a proof-of-concept based on selected tooling from study. Run the tools on existing project data and example use cases. Use a predefined ontology to manage the meta data. Develop a rule set that allows adding additional meta data/node relationships to the graph database by the user without breaking the schema.
  • Evaluation: Propose a rating methodology covering the selected basic use cases and conduct a user study based on given use cases to rate the benefits of graph-based project management.
