Job Description

Problem statement
Consumer products need to be sleek, compact and affordable. When the product is mobile, we also need to provide protection from water and dust (IP class). A typical solution is a gap-less design with glued plastic parts. However, this makes it hard to offer repairability, because the plastic housing cannot easily be opened and sealed again. We like to explore the opportunity to use adhesive tapes instead of glue for better repairability.

Proposed solution
The preliminary structure of the project is made up of three parts:
a.    Study: An initial phase investigating current solution of glued enclosures, the issues with repairability and availability of suitable tapes for this study. The research includes practical examples from Bosch together with a literature study of the state-of-the-art in mechanical design.
b.    Design: A design and implementation phase where one or more mechanical designs are created with different types of adhesive tapes to seal the enclosures.
c.    Evaluation: An evaluation phase includes mechanical testing of prototypes in comparison to current practice.

Scope of master thesis project
Two students completing 30 credits each (20 weeks) onsite at the Lund office.

Qualifications

Your profile
In order to be successful in the project with think you are:
•    Familiar with mechanical design principles for IP (water and dust) protection
•    A student in Mechanical Engineering or similar
•    Self-driven, able to challenge yourself, and gain the experience needed to move the project forward.
