Om tjänsten

Thesis Worker at Volvo Cars

Welcome to explore the world of Volvo Cars by writing your thesis with us! As a thesis worker in our organization you are supported by a supervisor who follows you during your project. All thesis projects are arranged in business critical areas and therefore you will be able to contribute to our company purpose – providing freedom to move in a safe, sustainable and personal way – from day one!

Background

Volvo Cars on a challenging and exciting journey where climate is an important contributor to the electrification, energy efficiency and digitalisation transformation of the company. The Climate ART is responsible for the climate development within Volvo Car Group and owns most of the components connected to the climate function, and the SW-control of the same.

The development and usage of CAE analysis methods for the thermal systems of the vehicles is a highly important aspect of the product development and we continuously work on improving our current methods and exploring new ones. We now see a potential in developing a thermal cabin model combining the two simulation tools GT-Suite and TAITherm.

Scope

As a Master thesis student you will be developing a thermal model of a car cabin. The purpose of creating the model is to aid in investigations related to energy efficiency and climate attributes in different projects. You will have the opportunity to cooperate with colleagues within the Climate ART. You will be part of a highly motivated team working with 1D and 3D simulations focused on the different climate systems but working with all thermal systems in the car.

In the master thesis project "Thermal cabin model development for interior climate simulations" you will be working on developing a detailed thermal cabin model coupling GT-Suite and TAITherm. GT-Suite is a simulation tool used for system simulations and TAITherm is a tool used for thermal analysis in 3D. GT-Suite and TAITherm can be coupled and used to simulate the thermal behavior of the cabin while maintaining enough speed to couple it to complex system simulations without doing a full 3D CFD simulation in a standalone software. .

The project will include:
·    Building a thermal cabin model
·    Develop and build knowledge of the modelling procedure
·    Verify and compare to an already existing model and potentially participate and compare to tests.
·    Investigate impact on energy efficiency compared to a simplified model with system simulations in GT-Suite.

Your contribution is our future
You are likely pursuing a Master of Science degree in for example Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Sustainability, and have a genuine interest and curiosity in the subject matter. You have good analytical and communication skills and an ability to manage complexity.

Duration
•    The duration of the Thesis is 20 weeks
•    The thesis starts in Jan 2023
•    30 ECTS (academic credits) if in agreement with your Thesis Advisor a your University
•    This thesis is suitable for 1-2 students
