At Software Factory we are applying manufacturing principles and techniques to software development to mimic benefits of traditional manufacturing and creating a software product line. We are harmonizing the workflows and developing tools to be used across R&D, with the aim to accelerate the software development at Volvo Cars. The teams working at the Software Factory work on developing continuous integration (CI) architecture & infrastructure, as well as maintaining the complete software build and CI flow. They enable high utilization of infrastructure, test objects and test artefacts. They are also responsible for creating automated tools & applications to secure an efficient flow. Additionally, they support traceability to fulfil all legal requirements.

Now we are looking for a Software Engineer with leadership skills to join our Software Factory.

You will work with CI pipelines, tools, infrastructure to find common areas to optimize, consolidate and make more efficient across R&D.

The first part of your job is to shape the future of CI at R&D. You will work closely with R&D Software Factory POs and CI Architects as well as direct and indirect stakeholders to accomplish this. You and your fellow colleagues will make the key technical choices that directly impact the efficiency of our CI machinery and thus the product development/release capacity at Volvo Cars.

The second part of your job is to – with a team of experienced DevOps engineers – rollout (drive) changes across R&D together with internal and external partners. As your customer base (R&D dev/release org.) consists of thousands of developers, often with conflicting agendas/concerns/preference, and this can be a decent challenge.

You have a business-oriented mindset and like to question the relevance of what you are asked to drive, and you enjoy being challenged by your peers. You have a lot of experience in using/maintaining key CI technologies (Jenkins, Gerrit, GitHub, GitLab, Artifactory). You are also experienced in planning and implementing big infrastructural changes (IT, CI). You like to code and are comfortable with Python, Bash, Groovy or Shell. It would be great if you were familiar with Linux and have worked in networking and Cloud. You have previous experience working in a role where you had to convey your Architectural plans to both Customers and team for review and implementation.
