Om tjänsten

SiC converter for electrical vehicle –DC-link ripple

Background
Silicon carbide technology has finally after many decades of development started to reach implementation maturity. The advantage is the low losses that can be achieved. Moreover, since it is SiC MOSFETs that are to be used, there is a possibility to use the MOSFET also in reverse conduction, which gives a possibility of lowered losses. It is of high importance to predict the emitted current ripple to the dc-link since this determining the sizing of capacitors as well as the EMI-environment of the vehicle.

Scope
To determine the ripple emitted to the dc-link with a battery connected from a SiC (Silicon Carbide) converter for a PMSG in an electrical vehicle using regular PWM as well as for DPWM (discontinuous PWM). Moreover, determine the ripple impact by the sizing of the inverter capacitor. Finally compare with measurements from an available set-up.

Plan
Select an appropriate SiC module to be used for the vehicle inverter.
Determine the current ripple injected into the dc-link for various dc link capacitors, battery and cable parameters as well as various operating points of the driven propulsion e-machine. Investigate the losses occurring in the dc-link capacitor. Finally compare with measurements on a real inverter.
