Exterior Rear Lighting - let’s introduce ourselves 

The distinctive lighting on a car's exterior is the first thing that catches your eye. For Volvo Cars, exterior lighting serves as a crucial means of communication with customers, and its importance is set to grow even more in the future, due to the rapid development of new advanced technologies.

 

Within the Exterior System department, our team, Exterior Rear Lighting, specifically focuses on the development of rear lamps, reflex, and brake lights. At Exterior Rear Lighting, you are part of a global cross functional development team with the task to develop and launch Volvo Car Groups upcoming car projects. 

 

Your work will in this role be in close cooperation with your colleagues and suppliers as well as developing future ways of foreseeing issues as Volvo are constantly trying to improve tools and streamline workflows. Your contributions will be key in enhancing decision-making processes through tight collaboration with various stakeholders, including suppliers, the design department, exterior department, and other attribute departments such as EMC and Electrical Performance.

 

What you’ll do 

In this position, your primary responsibility will involve overseeing and communicating all aspects of the electrical hardware in our rear lamps. You will actively engage in joint reviews and conduct weekly follow-up meetings across all project phases to facilitate effective communication and collaboration. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the development of high-quality, world-class products within a shortened lead time.

 

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Coordinate and lead the work within electrical hardware to develop amazing rear lamp solutions and to secure the deliveries within the given time.
  • Continue to develop our electrical hardware related requirements.
  • Understand, develop and discuss/balance the suppliers electrical hardware solutions when it comes to performance, power consumption, thermal, cost etc.
  • Lead hardware joint reviews, to check the quality status of the suppliers electrical hardware solutions and related product documentation. 


You will also be part of: 

  • Supplier evaluation, checking the electrical hardware solutions and processes.
  • System/functional safety joint reviews.


What you’ll bring
We are seeking for you who has a degree in Engineering, preferably holding a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Your strong communication skills, initiative, and solid knowledge in working with electrical hardware are crucial for this role.

 

You have an openminded, positive attitude and like to be proactive, you possess the courage to try new ways of doing things, take initiative and create change. You are eager to learn and think outside of the box. In a rapidly expanding field, adapting to new methods and gaining knowledge through an iterative search for best practices will be vital.
 

Education and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably holding a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
  • Electrical Hardware knowledge
  • Experience from development of ECUs (Electronic Control Unit)
  • Excellent skills in English, both verbal and written

 

Additional Meritorious Skills

  • Experience from development of electrical hardware in rear- or front lamps
  • Deep knowledge of PCBs including thermal simulations
  • Electronic design experience with components such as LEDs and driver circuits
  • Experience from environmental testing of electrical hardware, including EMC
  • SystemWeaver (CarWeaver)
  • eiDB (Electrical Interface Database)
