We are now looking for an R&D Engineer for our R&D team working with the Edges and Surfaces department within Sandvik Coromant R&D. You will lead and take part in knowledge or product related projects with the aim of developing methods, processes and technology platforms for cutting edge microgeometry and pre- and post-coating treatment of cutting tools. The location for this position is Västberga, Stockholm and travel is a natural part of the job.

Key performance areas
In this position, you are a member of a small team that contributes to the development of Sandvik Coromant’s business by securing access to edge preparation and surface treatment for our future products. You lead research projects, backing the organization with analyses and knowledge of material and surface characteristics and support the industrialization of cost effective and capable technology platforms. Important parts of your mission are to secure adequate patent management and to bring technology insights and competition monitoring to the table. You actively participate in development projects together with research teams at universities and institutes globally and ensure continuous knowledge development within your area of expertise. In addition, you act as a true role model for a sharing culture as you understand the importance of collaboration to reach success.

Your profile
We are looking for someone with a Master’s or, preferably, a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science and with at least four years’ work experience in your field of expertise. Your previous career includes at least two years working in R&D or product development and you have experience and well-developed knowledge in carbides and hard materials, as well as in machining applications. It’s also beneficial if you are skilled in project management and have knowledge in surface treatment, micro-geometric measurement, microscopy and surface characterization. As we operate in an international setting, your communication skills in English must be excellent, both verbally and in writing.
