Thesis Project - Wound visualization in mixed reality i Huskvarna

Business Unit Training & Simulation develops and manufactures training system mainly towards military users. The offer ranges from laser simulators and management systems to virtual simulators and e-learning. The products are based on a combination of electronics, advanced application development, IT technology with databases, optics, analog and digital radio technology and precision engineering. Training & Simulation operates globally with 600 employees spread out on the local sites in Huskvarna, Helsingborg, Stockholm, Sweden, Germany, USA, England, Canada, Norway, Holland, the Czech Republic, Kenya and Finland.

Simulated wounds during field exercises can be achieved using moulage, which takes time to setup, or digitally as a wound sustained in a simulation system, which lacks the realism provided by moulage. As means to bridge this gap we propose an augmented reality solution which projects a virtual wound onto a human. This enables real-time generation of a wound with appropriate visuals for a caregiver utilizing an augmented reality display. The exam can be divided into two parts: 1. Experimentation and development of a solution that uses augmented reality projection methods (track markers, body pose estimation). 2. Conduct tests and measurements.

This thesis project is suitable for Software Engineering students and will be based at Saab Training & Simulation in Huskvarna.
