Position summary:

The Devops Operations Manager is responsible for managing the Operational Devops engineers supporting EA game studios. You are overseeing the delivery of highly complex programs to support when games get shipped and run as live services. Using technically sound judgement and leveraging self-established relationships to interact with studios on a strategic technology plane. You Intercept, dissects and translate “the next thing” into simplified, discrete infrastructure requirements to ensure support functions exist or are in planning to support current and future architectural needs.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Accountability and responsibility to make sure all aspects of the agreed game operations are delivered and operated at the highest levels of quality from delivery to sunset.
  • Drive improvements in operational metrics, monitoring and alerting to provide better insight for the game teams as well as steering the development and support efforts for the engineers.
  • Bringing the agile mindset into the world of DevOps to support development, triage, incident and problem management processes.
  • Working with Game team and Operations partners to align our processes and communications strategies.
  • Building, coaching and mentoring a team to be effective at responding to unplanned events while maintaining a capable delivery organization.
  • Drive continuous improvement in all we do and make sure every aspect of our deliveries and our incidents are structured, captured, and documented.
  • Overseeing DevOps operational readiness for our games to make sure that they are able to successfully launch and entertain our players without interruptions.
  • You never settle for shift-change; if it’s impacted you engage for positive accountability and influence or drive others to the same passionate end.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in building and managing development teams with an operational focus.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps and SRE.

We prefer applicants with:  

  • Experience with Agile development using Scrum/Kanban/Lean.
  • A solid understanding of IT Service Management and how to efficiently work with Change, Incident and Problem Management in a large distributed Operations organization.
  • Documented success in collaborating across a global team across time zones and continents with the ability to mentor engineers both on and off-shore.
  • Natural communication skills both to both capture and convey messages in text, presentations and by the coffee machine.
  • Abilities to work with monitoring and service management tools.  
  • A good overall technical ability to dig into complex problems and understand how components are architected and integrated to assess the problem and apply the right resources to it.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure services – both traditional on premise hardware and cloud services such as AWS, GCP and Azure – and how they operate together and in combination with hybrid ecosystems.
