30 credits – Development of Acoustic Simulations using parametric CAD models in COMSOL i Sodertalje

Scania ingår i Traton Group.

A thesis project at Scania is an excellent way of making contacts for your future working life. Many of our current employees started their career with a thesis project.

Background:
The process when developing new concept designs requires many steps until analysis of performance properties can be completed. Historically, new concepts are iterated and evaluated through prototypes, which result in long iteration loops with high cost. Simulation driven design has through its many advantages solved a lot of these issues and lowered the general iteration time. To fully work towards virtual development, evaluation of simulated properties are required. One important property is Acoustics, which helps understand the acoustic behaviour and complete noise level of the truck.

Target:
The target of this thesis is to develop a methodology for an automated simulation in Comsol Multiphysics, using a generic CAD model made in Catia V5, in order to evaluate Acoustic performance of the exhaust system. This requires a fully automated design process from model generation, meshing, simulation and evaluation. The method is to be fast and stable enough to be used in an agile work environment.

Assignment:
The focus of this thesis is to develop a method that can automatically simulate the acoustic properties of a given CAD model. Work will be conducted in both CATIA and Comsol.

The focus of this project is to:

  1. Develop a method to automatically simulate a given CAD model in Comsol Multiphysics.
  2. Validate the method by implementing either Design of Experiments or Optimizations to improve the acoustic performance.
  3. Present and document the new methodology.

Education:
Master students in mechanical engineering, engineering physics or similar. Experience in CATIA and simulation is favourable.

Number of students: 1
