Master Thesis: Tunable High Frequency Oscillator i Göteborg, Sweden

Ericsson is the driving force behind the Networked Society where every person and every industry is empowered to reach their full potential. We make a difference, do you wanna shape the world with us?

Om tjänsten

Date: Dec 5, 2018

Job Summary:

As a master thesis worker, you will be a part of the Radio Link hardware product development team focusing on developing and maintaining Ericsson’s cutting-edge microwave transport products. Based on thesis scope you will get the opportunity for exciting product development and drive activities such as requirement analysis, design, simulation, integration and verification. We will further offer you opportunities in competence development and gain personal growth as well as get an insight in the great opportunities that Ericsson can offer.

Responsibilities:

Low phase noise oscillators are needed in more complex future Radio-Link products which are developed for frequency bands over 30 GHz. Today phase noise may be considered as a bottleneck for higher frame formats at higher frequencies and interacting products such as XPIC (Cross Polarization Interference Cancellation) and MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) systems. Frequency adjustable oscillators are needed to cover several frequency bands. By using mechanical tuning for band selection and a loose coupled varactor for fine frequency tuning maximum phase noise performance can be achieved.

The thesis work is currently seen to include:

- Definition and simulation of a mechanically tuned cavity oscillator with High-Q resonator for frequencies above 15 GHz (see Figure 1)

- Defined reference circuit is to be built, tested and verified in laboratory environment and be compared with obtained simulation results.

- Results are to be summarized in Master Thesis report.

Core competences for a Master Thesis worker:

Studying Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics or similar

Experience in electronics hardware design (analog and/or digital) is seen as a merit

Curious and solution-oriented personality

Good communications skills (English)

Qualifications:

All master program courses are preferably finished before start of thesis work

The scope of the thesis requires that work is carried out in pairs

The work should be done in close cooperation with Ericsson AB and follow applicable company standards

Expected Learnings:

The candidate(s) will gain knowledge regarding hardware design requirements for microwave radio links. A deep knowledge within the area of simulation, PCB design principles and oscillators will be obtained as well as an introduction to working in an agile multicultural environment.

Additional Details:

The work is expected to start in January 2019. The work is proposed for one student for a duration of 6 months. Location is at Ericsson  in Göteborg, Sweden. For informal queries, feel free to email Mikael Hörberg at  or Axel Lagerlöf at .
