Job Summary:

We are looking for candidates for a Master Thesis on video compression technologies for automotive applications.
The emerging automotive applications use several sensors to capture real-time information about surrounding world. Typically, several video cameras are used in addition to other sensors such as radar and LiDAR. The data is used for training and development of complex visual object detection algorithms for later use in automotive applications. The captured data creates high bandwidth and storage requirements leading to high cost of managing sensor data.
Ericsson Research has been a leader in development of video compression technologies. This Master Thesis project will research novel applications of established and emerging compression technologies for the automotive industry.

Responsibilities:
The objective of this thesis work is to research the impact of lossless and lossy video compression on bandwidth requirements for automotive applications. The second part of this thesis work will investigate the impact of lossy compression on performance of visual object detection methods.

Key Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar
• Programming skills in C++ and Python
• Knowledge of video or image compression is a plus
• Strong analytical and creative thinking
