Background

Scania is together with KTH in Södertälje and AstraZeneca, making a major effort to strengthen the skills within sustainable production. A network of faculty PhD students and industrial PhD students will be recruited in the areas of production management, production logistics and industrial operational safety.

Within this venture, Scania is now announcing an industrial PhD student position within the area of Lean Management. The position is part of a planned PhD student team of a total of 3-4 new PhD students in the field, with organizational affiliation at Scania, AstraZeneca and KTH Södertälje.

The Position

This position focuses on research to identify the best practice in the Lean Management area, as well as developing new knowledge about how different future scenarios affect Lean implementation in general and specifically the Scania Way. The research will also identify the success factors that guide the development of the Scania Way “beyond Lean”.

This Industrial PhD student position within Lean Management is based on the following research question:

“How to develop the Scania Way to ensure future success in Scania’s core processes flows within specified future scenarios? “The Order to Delivery Process is considered as the main focus area.

General research scope for an Industrial PhD student:

  1. How does different future scenarios affect the implementation of Lean in general, and the Scania Way in specific?
  2. What are the critical factors for future success in the flows of the core processes?
  3. What new principles are relevant to integrate into the lean management system based on the future scenarios and identified critical success factors?

You will work closely with the Scania units within the Order to Delivery process, and will also develop yourself through the network with other industrial PhD students within Scania and KTH.

The position will be placed at the Global SPS Office (TO) within Production & Logistics. As a PhD student within Lean Management you will also work closely with the Scania Way Office (XW), as well as with other Industrial PhD students within Production & Logistics.

Your profile

You have been working for a few years and would like to develop your subject skills within production, production development and Lean management, as well as your analytic skills, your creativity and writing. You have a M.Sc. with a relevant focus or the corresponding qualifications required to be accepted as a PhD student at KTH. As a person you are persistent, focused, creative, independent, structured, and you have a great interest in production and Lean. You should also have a very strong ability to express yourself well in English, in both speech and writing.
