R&D Engineer - Electronics Component Engineer i Ludvika

Join ABB as a R&D Electronics Component Engineer in the Power Grids division, Grid Integration business unit in Ludvika and work in a team which is dedicated to creating a future where innovative digital technologies bring cleaner energy to more people. HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) is a business unit within ABB’s Power Grids division located in Ludvika. The unit develops, manufactures and sells DC transmission systems on a global market. This ABB developed HVDC technology is used to transmit electricity over long distances and for power transmission via submarine cables. HVDC is also used to connect power systems.

Your responsibilities will be to

• Work closely with product development teams especially electronics design engineers during development of new products as well as maintainance of existing products:
- Providing support during internal component request process and searching for suitable components as needed
- Comparing component specifications and data sheets to propose alternate components for further analysis
- Making sure during components selection that selection process has a product life cycle perspective in line with overall lifetime expectation of the complete product
- Helping avoid single sourcing situations with very narrow design specifications that limit potential supplier base

• Interface with electronics component manufacturers to get:
- Technical information regarding electronics components
- Obsolescence information to be used as base for electronics product life cycle decisions
- Environmental compliance information (RoHS, Reach...)
- Information that prevents us from using components containing conflict minerals
- Information regarding component manufacturer mergers and acquisitions that might influence our business or cause product level life cycle issues.

• Communicate and interact with internal supply chain management and electronics manufacturers regarding component related questions
- Find and propose alternative sources/components in case of procurements problems
- Help manage supply risk by eliminating single source for critical components

• Work in interaction with a PLM system to secure:
- Correct technical component data
- Correct environmental compliance component data
- Up to date technical information such as data sheets

You have a deep understanding of electronics components form electronics development work and/or experience of working as component engineer in a supply chain or development organization. As a competence base you have a university education but relevant experience in component engineering tasks is the most important.

• Experience of search and selection of components for new designs
• Experience of advanced PLM tools
• Experience of electronics manufacturing and component sourcing processes
• Ability to read and interpret circuit schematics
• Professional, open-minded and quality-focused mindset

We are a global team. Spoken and written skills in English are mandatory and fluency in Swedish is highly desirable.
