We are looking for a PhD student in Medical Science.

Your work assignments

Cancer cells face constant challenges in maintaining protein and lipid homeostasis while sustaining rapid growth and survival under stress. Our research seeks to understand how cancer cells adapt to these pressures by rewiring homeostatic networks and how these adaptations create previously unrecognized therapeutic vulnerabilities. We are looking for a PhD student to join our team and contribute to projects aimed at identifying and mechanistically characterizing these vulnerabilities using molecular, cellular, and computational approaches in cancer biology and functional genomics.

As a PhD student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20 per cent of full-time.

Your qualifications

You have graduated at Master's level or completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses. Alternatively, you have gained essentially corresponding knowledge in another way.

Applicants are expected to hold a Biomedical Laboratory Science degree (Biomedicinsk analytikerexamen, BMA) and a Master's degree corresponding to at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level in a relevant field, such as biomedical laboratory science, biomedicine, molecular biology, bioinformatics, medicine, pharmacy, medical science, or a related discipline.

You should have a strong interest in research and science, particularly in cancer biology and biomedical research addressing important challenges in human health. We are looking for a motivated candidate with an interest in understanding how cancer cells adapt to cellular stress and maintain homeostasis, and how these adaptations can create therapeutic vulnerabilities.

Great importance will be placed on personal qualities such as commitment, motivation, communication skills, and the ability to collaborate. Applicants must have good written and spoken English. You are expected to work independently while also collaborating effectively with other members of the research group. The successful candidate will also be expected to actively participate in teaching and student supervision corresponding to a maximum of 20% of full-time employment.

Applicants should have experience with methods commonly used in biomedical research, such as mammalian cell culture, molecular and cellular biology techniques, flow cytometry, microscopy, protein analysis, or related laboratory methods.

Experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, or the analysis of large-scale biological datasets will be considered a strong advantage. Experience with CRISPR-based approaches or statistical programming in R or Python is desirable but not required.

The Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences (BKV), Division of Clinical Chemistry and Pharmacology, conducts internationally recognized research and provides undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral education within the medical sciences.

The employment

The employment has a duration of normally four years' full-time equivalent. Extension of employment up to five years is based on the degree of teaching and institutional assignment. Further extensions may be granted in exceptional circumstances. You will initially be employed for one year, after which your employment will be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time, depending on your progress through the study plan.

Starting date by agreement, no later then 261231.
