Om tjänsten

Being a Programmer Manager at Paradox Development Studio entails working close with a team of deeply passionate C++ developers in a matrix organization - with the end goal to deliver great games to a passionate community. Your task will be to motivate, coach, and grow your teams both in size and in professional development. You will also be part of larger improvement initiatives, everything from improving recruitment process to running programmer workshops. At Paradox we foster a culture of ownership and autonomy, and you will be a champion as well as an enabler for your team to be able to embrace this philosophy of self-leadership.

We have ambitious goals for 2019 and are looking for someone to help us achieve them. Some areas that we want to focus on during the upcoming years relate to diversity, knowledge sharing, building feedback-culture & methodology, as well as anything else that you come up with that could lead to us being able to build better games more effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Direct management of 8-12 Game Programmers which consists of regular 1:1 Meetings, development talks, salary talks and helping to find opportunities for them to grow and develop.
  • Mentoring and coaching developers to level-up.
  • Being part of the Programmer Recruitment process by taking part in interviews, reviewing applicants, iterating on the process and training developers to be more involved in recruitment.
  • Ensuring our programmers have the right tools to do their best work, both in terms of development tools and software and with regards to training to build a wider skill set as a developer.
  • Supporting initiatives such as regular Programmer Workshops, Hackathons and Personal Development projects to help programmers grow, learn and bond as a team.
  • Support the studio in building the right teams of people to make the best games possible, which involves coordinating programmers moving between teams and the formation of strike teams.
  • Promoting a healthy and diverse work environment which is welcoming to all while also building a strong culture and sense of purpose within our teams.

Required Qualifications

  • A strong desire to build high performing teams of programmers who have a high sense of autonomy and ownership over their work.
  • A track record of coaching and mentoring other developers and/or leading development teams to successful delivery.
  • You come from a background where you’ve designed software architecture as well as contributing with code as a developer.

If you have previous experience from working in C++ it will be in your favor, but not necessarily a must. What we in the end are looking for is a great leader who cares deeply for the health and development of his/her team and enable them to level up our games.
